History of Grama Panchayat

Karimba is an area of 69.22 sq. km. in the Mannarkad taluk of Palakkad district, which is connected to the Kalladikodan hill, Karimala, and Poozhikunnu hill. Karimba, which is a part of the Mannarkad district, which is a mixture of soil, water, and sand, is blessed with all three ecological elements. The beautiful Kalladikodan hill, the Thuppanad river originating from it, and the Attila Meenvallam waterfalls are the unique beauty of Karimba. The Kalladikodan hills, which are part of the Western Ghats, are a treasure trove of biodiversity. The garden-like attraction of valleys, rocky hills, rivers, greenery, and plains is the only specialty of Karimba.

The entire area, which is connected to the valley of the Kalladikodan hill and the coastal area of the Thuppanad river, was used for paddy cultivation by the ancients. Later, it was realized that sugarcane cultivation is suitable for the sandy loam soil and was cultivated extensively for centuries. Gradually, sugarcane cultivation spread throughout this area and this area came to be known by that name. Each place in this area is collectively known as Karimpu, for example, Karimpu Pallipadi, Karimpu Panayampadam, etc. This area, which was initially known as Karimpu, is now known as Karimpu after the name Karimpu has been dropped.
